Air temperature anomalies for Croatia in January 2020

Positive values of air temperature anomalies for January 2020 indicate that the average monthly air temperature was above the multi-annual average (1981 - 2010) at the all analyzed stations. Corresponding air temperature anomalies were within the range from 0.2 °C to 3.4 °C.

Absolute maximum air temperature for January 2020 was mainly above the multi-annual average (1981 - 2010) and corresponding air temperature anomalies were within the range from -1.2 °C to 3.0 °C. A comparison with the available data series of analyzed stations (Table 1) reveals that in January 2020 there were no maximum air temperatures exceeding the absolute maximum on record.

According to percentile ranks and classification ratings, thermal conditions in Croatia for January 2020 have been described by following categories: very warm (part of the Northern Adriatic and its hinterland), normal (Central, Northern and Eastern Croatia and the wider areas of the towns of Poreč and Pazin) and warm (the rest of Croatia).



Precipitation amounts for Croatia in January 2020

An analysis of the precipitation amounts in January 2020 expressed as percentages (%) of the 1981 - 2010 average shows that these precipitation amounts were below the average at the all analyzed stations. A comparison with the multi-annual average reveals that corresponding precipitation amounts for January 2020 were within a 4 % - 76 % range of the above mentioned average for this month.

According to percentile ranks and classification ratings, the precipitation amounts in January 2020 have been described by following categories: normal (the wider areas of the towns of Varaždin, Bjelovar and Dubrovnik), dry (Eastern Croatia, the wider area of the town of Šibenik and part of the Northern and Southern Adriatic) and very dry (the rest of Croatia).

In January 2020 the number of days with snow depth ≥ 1 cm was within the range from 1 to 13 days. The maximum value of snow depth was observed at Zavižana (7 cm) followed by Parg, Sisak and Slavonski Brod (3 cm), etc.
